Artist’s Statement: Encaustic Work
In my encaustic work I focus on quietness. The work represents a thought. My moment in time remembered might be different than the viewers. The boxes are a three dimensional journal. I recycle wood from my backyard to make the boxes. I use writing and stories from my travels to Italy, Spain, Greece and Turkey and from my daily life in Oakland, CA and the surrounding areas. I layer the wax. I find the right hue. I pull the papers, journals, and photographs of past experiences. I am developing a personal vocabulary that is independent of specific interpretation.
