In preparation for my trip to New York City, I made over 70 ceramic planks in my Oakland studio. I chose a strong and demanding color to engage in the dynamic environment. With only 4 days in New York City it was not as much time as I would have liked to explore all the urban possibilities.
These black mountain cone 10 clay pieces were made in my Oakland studio and carried with me to Indian Canyon and Joshua Tree in California and various national and state parks in Utah such as Valley of Fire, Zion National Park, Grand Staircase Escalante National Park, Arches and Canyonland. I placed the clay pieces in these various environments considering the context and landscape.
